Understanding the Possibilities in this Digital World!

The Internet is the best thing that has happened to humanity. Upon its inception, it has undergone massive changes. It started as a medium of communication, then became a source of entertainment and is now a setting for employment.

The cost-effectiveness of setting up a business online and the fact that almost all of the world population are nesting here are enough reasons for anybody to explore the possibility of going online. But the real question is, have you understood the possibilities?

What if I tell you, if you could answer these five following questions seamlessly, you are all ready to unleash your business online?
  • What is your Business about?
  • Who is your competition
  • Describe your Target Audience.
  • Can you find your Target Audience online?
  • Is your Target Audience buying things online?

Before I explain why these questions are essential to ask, let me clarify that it’s not necessary that the last two questions’ answers must be a “yes.”

Taking your business online is most certainly not rocket science, but it’s not a cakewalk either. Therefore, before launching your business on the biggest platform, it’s essential to understand what’s in store for you, and what are the possibilities of your success online.

Coming to the first question, “What is your business about?”

Imagine you’re at an Award function as a guest, and you’re suddenly presented with a mic and told to entertain the crowd for 3 minutes while the real hosts clean up the mess. Now, talk about your business.

Remember, you have 3 minutes to explain your business in grave detail to the people who are only looking forward to the show that’s getting interrupted by you.

Can you?

Now, you’re ready to make a business plan and strategy for going online.

The fact that you can describe your business efficiently under pressure says a lot about how much you know your business in and out.

Your business plan should include the niche in which you’ll work, your budget, market analysis online, and a full-proof strategy.

“Who is your competition?”

I can’t stress enough on the importance of knowing your competition well. You should know them even better than you know your spouse. From who are your competitors to what are their marketing strategies, you should have an answer to them all.

  • “Describe your Target Audience, and are they online?”
  • How does your ideal customer look?
  • How does he/she behave?
  • How do they live? (their social status)

If you have an answer for all the above questions and can note it down and make a buyer’s persona, congratulations, you’re closer to the finish line than you think you are.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to have millennials as your target audience to become prodigies online. Even if your customers are in the 40 to 60 age bracket, you can target them effortlessly online. I’ll speak more on that later.

Now coming to the most critical question, “Is your Target Audience buying things online?”

Assuming you’re on your way to prepare a buyer’s persona, know that it’s going to give you an enormous insight into what your audience must be doing online. If your customer is a tech-savvy urban 50-year-old man, chances are 8 out of 10 times you’ll spot him on Facebook, Gmail, and eCommerce apps/websites like Amazon.

The more you get an insight into this, the better. Complex questions like “what time of the hour will they be online at?”, “what must they be buying online?” etc. will be easier to brainstorm upon once you know your audience well.

Now, let’s say your audience isn’t online. Remember, I told you it’s outstanding if you don’t have a yes to the last two questions? You can still build your empire over the Internet without having your army upfront.
